Breach Cost Scenario Calculator

Build an illustrative incident-cost scenario using your own assumptions. This calculator is not a prediction, benchmark, insurance quote, or assessment.

Use estimates from your own continuity planning and supplier quotes. The model adds downtime impact, response labour, and recovery costs. It does not calculate incident likelihood or a recommended security budget.

What the model includes

Total = (downtime days × business impact per day) + (response hours × response cost per hour) + other recovery costs. Avoid counting the same item twice. For example, do not include response labour in both the hourly estimate and other recovery costs.

What it leaves out

Longer-term revenue effects, legal costs, notification work, insurance recoveries, and other consequences depend on the scenario. Add relevant items to your planning outside this simple model. A loss estimate does not establish that any particular security product will prevent that loss.

Use the scenario in a supplier conversation

Translate the assumptions into questions about recovery responsibilities, operating coverage, and written scope. The vendor-selection guide helps organise those questions; the cyber insurance buying checklist prepares a separate conversation with your broker.
